Chat Abbreviations

Have you ever wondered what all the little condensed set of letters meant?

Sometimes I can figure them out and sometimes they are just garbled letters, I'm not into chatting much. I have a few friends that do quite a lot of it and there abbreviations carry over to their email. They tell me it is just a form of shorthand and reduces the number of letters that need to be typed. I always had a secretary and never got into shorthand although my secretary's was sure different from what I see on the internet. Of course, I don't see many of the squiggly lines on my keyboard either; maybe that's the reason.

I was complaining to a buddy that I keep receiving stuff with abbreviations that I don't understand. He sent me the following list and thought they would cover most abbreviations. I decided to post them figuring that I might not be the only one that didn't understand what was going on. Of course by the time I learn them they'll probably have another newer set. Here is the list:

I tried to put this in as a pretty table but the lines kept getting off, so I just change to text. Now I will have to see if it works since I copied it into the page. Sometimes this causes problems with the page. I hope these will help someone besides myself; I did know about half a dozen of them. Maybe some of the chat rooms will make more sense now.
