Decisions and Consequences
Every thing you do will result in certain consequences. This is the reason you need goals related to your long and short range planning. Without having a basic set of rules outlining your business needs; you will probably find yourself being influenced by much of the hype on the internet. I made the same mistake at one time and found myself buying just about everything being offered. I have millions of ebooks and other products stored on my computer and I can't even tell you everything I have purchased. I started to create an index at one time until I found how much time was involved to identify and document a million files. Good planning from the start will definitely improve your decision making.
There is an old saying we used from my previous working days. It was "Plan to Do, Do the Plan" believe me, it will save you time in the long run. When I retired, I decided I wasn't going to work anymore, I was retired. I shouldn't have retired my brain, it has cost me a lot of additional time and money since I started on the internet. I may have been luckier than some in the fact I had retirement income and a wife still working. This let me keep going but not smartly; it took me over a year before I discovered that my expenses out weighed my income from playing on the internet.
I did say playing, that is what I was doing without following some very sound basic principles of business. The better you plan and follow the plan, the better your results will be, your decision making will improve dramatically. You will also see an improvement in the consequences of those decisions. It won't keep you from making some mistakes, but it should help reduce the number of mistakes made.
Planning in today's world needs more flexibilty than in the past. Evaluate your mission statement and if it is sound, then your plans are probably still pointing in the right direction. Today's technology moves so fast that you must always keep an eye out for better methods of reaching your goals. The only thing to be careful of is the cost of the new technology; sometimes there are bugs and this can make implementation costs prohibitive.
The best method of protecting yourself in the long range is creating a good and reasonable plan and following it as best you can. Remember all decisions have consequences which can be both good and bad. I hope all of yours are good.
